Dear Mr. Jeffries,
21st April, 1942
Professor Ifor Evans has handed me your letter 53611/3/41 of April 14th with reference to the Council's cheque for £1,000, representing their first year grant to the Hong Kong University for scholarships for students from the interior of China.
We note that we must presume that this money was paid over to the University authorities, and have no doubt that the University's London bankers are fully justified in declining to take the responsibility for making any refund in the absence of instructions from their Principals; at the same time we should be very grateful if the @blonial Office would see that our claim is filed, so that in the event of the University's account being wound up our position may be considered.
Yours very truly,
W.Jassen. Asam
